Being sick sucks! Hi, I'm Captain of The Obvious. 

The fog of illness has lifted, and this newsletter suffered by being put on the low priority list. 

Excuses aside, let's get to some cool stuff. 

Cool movie stuff

Jackie Brown came up in a class recently. Robert DeNiro is hilarious and shows how funny silence can be, like this scene here. The way he hangs up the phone gets me every time. 

This video about how Scorcese uses silence is a fun watch, especially thinking of silence as a reward. 

And you know I love me some silence in improv scenes. Silence and space work, baybeh-baybay. 

Cool question stuff

An actor asked me a question via email the other day that I'd thought I'd share as well as my answer: 

"feeling one of those waves of "ughh can I actually be an actor, should I actually pursue this 100%"

My response: Oof, yeah, that is the eternal question. No matter where you are in your career, I think that question will pop up repeatedly. There are very few that only act to pay the bills. So your 100% is going to look different than someone else. I've been lucky and have had a lot of support from my family. Now I've found gigs that I truly find fulfilling to sustain me through long stretches in between bookings. If you love it, then keep doing it. Maybe one day you won't love it anymore. Maybe you'll love it for the rest of your life. Might as well find out.
